Stink and Judy Moody have a really fun website! Check it out: http://www.stinkmoody.com/
Webster, Stink and Sophie are trying to make a project of the Great Wall of China with boxes. Stink bought the boxes so they could count how much he had collected all together. Stink's sister, Judy, put hair in the microwave to try to make more guinea pigs and Stink got really mad. The whole book is full of this kind of mischief, and I recommend it to anyone who likes mischief... and animals! It was just really funny! ~ Olivia L. Grage 3

Stand Up for Yourself and Your Friends ~ by Patti Kelley Criswell
Reviewed by Leah G., Grade 3
This book is about bullying and how to stop bullying. Kids can connect to this book because some people know what it is like when kids are mean to them. If kids know about this book, it might help them to stop bullying. I recommend this book to kids who want to stop bullying or bossiness.
Thanks Leah! Here is what the American Girl Bookstore folks had to say about this important book:
"Many girls need help dealing with bullies and bossiness. This book is filled with quizzes and quotes from real girls, and the "What would you do?" scenarios give readers lots of ideas for dealing with bullies, including clever comebacks and ways to ask adults for help. Includes an anti-bullying pledge for girls to sign, plus tear-out tips to share with their parents."
Beauty and The Beast ~ Retold by Michael Dahl
Illustrations by Luke Feldman
Review by Julia C., 3rd Grade
This book is called Beauty and the Beast and it is retold as a graphic novel. The story is about Beauty and how she discovers that she is in love with Beast. It starts out that everyone is afraid of the beast and Beauty's family does not want her to go to see him, but she does anyway. My favorite part is when they fall in love and when Beauty saves Beast. I recommend this book for anyone who loves a good fairy tale!

My Pet Frog by Renee Craats
Frogs have lived on Earth for millions of years. They can be pets to some people. Frogs are the same as toads, but some frogs are not because they don't lay eggs in the water or stay on land because the frogs that are not toads live in water and lay eggs on leaves. So, if you like frogs and want to learn more about them, I recommend that you check out My Pet Frog from the Jameson Library!

Red Riding Hood ~ A Graphic Novel!
Martin Powell has written a graphic novel to retell the story of Red Riding Hood! Victor Rivas used dark and mysterious illustrations that really bring the story to life! Here is what third graders Jessie and Shani had to say about it:
If you like graphic novels, scary fairy tales with new twist and bunch of fantasy, you will REALLY like this story. Red Riding Hood is a story we all know well, but reading it like a comic book is so cool. We definitely recommend this book for other kids!

Ciara is a bright and happy second grader who loves to read. Enjoy her book review!
This is a great book! This is the story of two best friends, Gerald the elephant and Piggie the pig. They copy their friends the squirrels by surprising each other. They got worried because they hid behind a rock and they couldn't see each other. They both jumped out and they were so scared that they fainted. It was very funny! The Dumpman's Treasures ~ Lynn Plourde
This book has great illustrations and it is a good book for kids who are good readers. The Dumpman is a good man. The Dumpman won't throw books away. He will save them, and he even started a new library at the dump. When people bring their carts, they can borrow a book that he cleaned up. We learn how much he loves books and wants children to read. The townspeople still remember the Dumpman years later. When the Dumpman hurt his leg, all the kids actually read to HIM!

14 Cows for America ~ Carmen Agra Deedy
14 Cows For America
Wriiten by Carmen Agra Deedy
In collaboration with Wilson Kimeli Naiyomah
BEAUTIFULLY illustrated by Thomas Gonzalez
This beautiful story based on the real life experiences of Wilson Kimeli Naiyomah is set in a remote village in Western Kenya, though the reader's heart is always in New York City remembering how a country came together after the tragic events of 9/11. On a return trip to home to be with the Maasai people in Kenya, Kimeli shares the stories of 9/11 with the elders of his village. The warriors listen quietly, grieve openly, and share what is most honored to them with people they have never even met.
Whether or not children know about or remember the events of 9/11, this story has a place in every home and classroom. It is a deeply touching story of hope and friendship with timeless messages about the power of kindness, compassion, and peace.
This book has JUST been added to the Jameson School Library. I know it will soon become a favorite!

The Night I Followed the Dog by Nina Laden
Read about why Mrs. Shaw thinks you will love this book:
The Night I Followed the Dog is a favorite book of mine because I think it's fun to imagine the secret lives that a pet might have at night. What adventures could your dog or cat have while you are tucked into your bed? Another part of this book that I love is the way the words are written. Look closely at them when you are hearing the story and see if you can see all of the clever ways that the author wrote and illustrated the words. Maybe you could write some words like that in your journal sometime!
This book is available on Tumblebooks!

Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles
A favorite story of Mrs. Shaw:
Have you ever heard the expression, "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence?" Well, in this book, Edward puts that to the test. Edward the Emu is one of my very favorite books because I remember the feeling that it gave me the very first time it was read to me. I loved every page and I couldn't wait to see what Edward wanted to be next. I especially love the illustrations and the expressions that Edward makes. Oh, and I love what Edward learns at the end.
Diary of a Spider by Doreen Cronin
Mrs. Roy had this to say about Diary of a Spider:
All I can think is, "Doreen Cronin
and Harry Bliss must have had so much fun working on thus book!" Diary of a Spider is full of word plays and funny pictures and silly situations that will keep you laughing and thinking about familiar things in new ways. I mean, c'mon, a spider that goes to school and writes about his day in a diary? That sounds like what first graders do....... Hmmmmmm, I wonder..... Sit back and enjoy!
Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney
Mrs. Henderson shares her thoughts on this timeless story:
My mom always read Miss Rumphius to my brothers and sisters and me during the spring time. Reading it now always reminds me of her and the exciting season of spring! When Miss Rumphius was a child, her grandfather urged her to do something to make the world a more beautiful place. Whenever I read this book, I think about what I can do to make the world a more beautiful place. What can YOU do? I hope you enjoy this book as much as I do!
Dogzilla and KatKong by Dav Pilkey
Mrs. Record loved to share these stories with children and they were always in high demand once she introduced them! I have even seen these favorites at my own house several times! Mrs. Record says, "Warning: These books are rated EG- Extremely Goofy! Kids and adults will love them.(Be sure to read the "credits" at the beginning of each book.)"
The Hat by Jan Brett
Mrs. Walker chose this wonderful story by Jan Brett as one of her favorite read-alouds. Perhaps it's because she knows the wisdom of the adage, "Don't go poking your nose where it doesn't belong." That's just what Hedgie the hedgehog learns in this story. You see, Hedgie finds himself in a pickle, thanks to his curious nature. All the farm animals chuckle at silly Hedgie, but in the end, Hedgie gets the last laugh.
The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn
Mrs. Maturo wants to share her favorite back to school book with you!
"New things can be exciting and fun. We just have to remember that someone loves us and believes in us. This book is my favorite because of the message it sends my own children. It tells them that they are in my thoughts all day and that I love them wherever they are."

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes
A review from Agate Books:
- "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes is one of the best children's books of the 20th century. Lilly the mouse loves school and her teacher Mr. Slinger. But one day Lilly brings a brand new purple plastic purse to school and shows off the purse at an inappropriate time. When her teacher has to take the plastic purse away, Lilly becomes angry. At the end of the school day, Lilly gets her purse back along with a thoughtful note from her teacher. In the end, Lilly retains her good feelings for school life and her teacher. This picture book appeals to kindergartners and first graders. "Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" is a good real-aloud book for both home and classroom. Apart from fun reading, the book can also be used to teach appropriate classroom behavior.
"It's amazing how one little mouse can be so much like real human kids! This story ought to start a good discussion in every first grade classroom." ~ Mr. Flaherty

The Wreck of the Zephyr by Chris VanAllsburg
This review comes from Shana Gonzalez. The Wreck of the Zephyr is one of my favorite books to share with children. Enjoy!
Award-winning children’s book author Chris van Allsburg brings us another original fantasy. In it a young boy, brilliant at sailing, scoffs at the advice of more experienced sailors and ventures out into a storm. When his boat capsizes, he finds himself on an island populated by people who sail in the sky with the use of special sails. Determined to master this new skill, he steals some sails and uses them to travel home. Forgetting that the sails do not work over land, he decides to show off by ringing his village’s bell tower and, like a modern-day Icarus, plunges from the sky. The ending is a little more gentle than the Greek story, and instead of perishing he lives out his life limping from his injury, searching for new sails to restore his flight.
Happy reading!
