14 Cows For America
Wriiten by Carmen Agra Deedy
In collaboration with Wilson Kimeli Naiyomah
BEAUTIFULLY illustrated by Thomas Gonzalez
This beautiful story based on the real life experiences of Wilson Kimeli Naiyomah is set in a remote village in Western Kenya, though the reader's heart is always in New York City remembering how a country came together after the tragic events of 9/11. On a return trip to home to be with the Maasai people in Kenya, Kimeli shares the stories of 9/11 with the elders of his village. The warriors listen quietly, grieve openly, and share what is most honored to them with people they have never even met.
Whether or not children know about or remember the events of 9/11, this story has a place in every home and classroom. It is a deeply touching story of hope and friendship with timeless messages about the power of kindness, compassion, and peace.
This book has JUST been added to the Jameson School Library. I know it will soon become a favorite!
